The home page of a web site is the root, top-most , or the first page that is generally viewable. [1]

The main or entry page of most web sites. [8]

This term can have a few meanings. Originally it meant the website that your browser went to when you opened it. For example when I open Windows Explorer it, opens up to Google.ca. Google would be my homepage. This is something you can set yourself. Your homepage could be any page you choose. A homepage now, can also mean the homepage of a website. A website homepage is meant to give the user a general idea of what is in the entire website. Generally the homepage is named index.php or index.htm.
